The Need for HIV Dialogue and Learning

Stigma remains one of the biggest barriers to preventing and reducing the negative impacts of HIV. It affects how people access care, how services are delivered, and how communities respond.

From past discussions with some harm reduction workers in smaller urban areas in BC, we heard is that more conversations about HIV and learning about HIV is needed in harm reduction services. When it’s not talked about it can create an atmosphere of unfairly judging people living HIV or who might be more at risk for HIV, and therefore a more stigmatizing harm reduction service environment.

This toolkit is designed to spark change: equipping you with practical strategies to reduce HIV stigma in your work and community. By exploring these resources, you’ll discover how small shifts in mindset, communication, and collaboration can make a lasting difference in how harm reduction services are delivered in BC, especially in smaller urban, rural, and remote areas where HIV stigma might be noticeable.
